It is suffering from the same problem that Enterprise had with the Xindi, that it's being pulled over too many episodes. The President is a GREAT character, and I think it's awesome that they found so much for Oded Fehr and David Cronenberg to do. This season hasn't been my favorite, but I've enjoyed more than I haven't. The logical contortions that the people on YouTube like Midnight's Edge have to go through that they somehow keep making more in order hid the fact that it's a flop makes me head spin. But I think to say it's not a success kind of flies in the face of the fact that it's the anchor of their entire Star Trek Universe brand. I personally like Disco, although I do get why it's not for everyone. And it features really heavily in their advertising. by AnonymousĬlearly, streaming numbers are what they are and usually aren't publicly available, but Paramount is apparently happy enough that they paid Netflix a lot of money to pull it off in order to have it onboard when Paramount+ launches internationally. I am far more excited about Picard at this point. Saru has also taken a back seat this year and he is really the only interesting character left. I think removing Georgiou and Tilly from the show and replacing them with those Blue and that other character whose name I can't remember has dulled the show. I like Burnham but I feel like this year, they've almost cut out the rest of the cast to the point where the show is just the Burnham/Book relationship show. Added to that, all of the characters had important arcs and the focus wasn't almost solely on Burnham. Season 2 remains the best season of the show because while there was a mystery element, every episode seemed to be building towards a big confrontation with Control at the end of the season. This huge anomaly, just seems to be sitting there. Both Seasons 3 and 4's stories are based on mystery boxes were every week we get little clues setting up a big reveal (the season 3 reveal was a huge disappointment btw) but causes the story to stall mid-way through and it causes the season to drag.Ī big problem with season 4 is that the DMA was set up as this huge threat but since the destruction of Book's home world, nothing threatening has happened. I think the big problem with Discovery is that the writers have conflated serialization with mystery.
